The one-off women’s Ashes Test match ends in a draw.
The one-off women’s Ashes Test between Australia and England at the Manuka Oval in Canberra came to an end as the Ashes test was drawn on Sunday.
In the one-off women’s Ashes Test series England, women elected to bowl first. Putting Australian women in bat first position they put a target of 337 runs. Australian women captain Meg Lanning scored 93 runs.
In reply England Women’s captain, Heather Knight scored 168 runs and remained Unbeaten which helped to get close to the target.
The second innings ended with Australia scoring 216/7 thanks to a fifty from Beth Mooney and useful contributions from Ellyse Perry, Tahlia McGrath, and Ash Gardner. After Australia declared on 216/7 on the final day of the only Ashes Test, England scored consistently at more than 5 runs an over, chasing 257.
To start England’s chase, Lauren Winfield Hill made 33 while opening partner Tammy Beaumont made 36 from just 42 balls. Although Heather Knight failed to make a fifty, she hit 48 from 54 balls to take the game into the final session before all-rounder Nat Sciver and Sophia Dunkley appeared ready to win. Dunkley hit 45 from just 32 balls as Skifter scored 58 in just 62 balls. Both batters added 52 runs in just 7.2 overs, as England sailed towards the target at 218/3. England scored just 27 runs off their last six wickets.
An exciting finish on Sunday saw England narrowly miss a record target by 12 runs after getting to 245/9 in 48 overs.
“Brilliant Test match and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This one didn’t deserve a draw. Bowling is hardest in Test match I cricket, so I feel pretty much fine. Katherine, the way she bowled and fought, is a warrior. We gave it a go and were favorites. And we went toe to toe with the Aussies,” England women’s captain Heather Knight said.
