The India U19 World Cup-winning squad is in Ahmedabad to see India vs. West Indies in the 2nd ODI.
The India U19 squad, who won the World Cup in the West Indies earlier this month, attended the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday for the 2nd ODI between India and the West Indies. The Yash Dhull-led side, dressed in blue blazers and pants, was in the stands watching Rohit Sharma’s men play in the ODI.
Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, and Arun Dhumal, the treasurer, were present at the stand with the members of the U19 World Cup squad. NCA president VVS Laxman, team head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar, and other support staff members were also present at the world’s largest cricket stadium.
The Gujarat Cricket Association extended a special invitation to the U19 World Cup squad and support personnel for the 2nd ODI. The U19 World Cup-winning squad is expected to be honoured in Ahmedabad. On Sunday evening, the kids took a flight from the Caribbean to Amsterdam, then to Bangalore, before landing in Ahmedabad.
It is doubtful if the U19 lads would see the senior squad members, given that Rohit Sharma and his guys are confined to a bio-bubble in Ahmedabad.
Notably, the BCCI offered a financial prize of Rs 40 lakh for each of the U19 World Cup-winning team’s players and Rs 25 lakh for each member of the support crew.
Sourav Ganguly, president of the BCCI, stated that the financial award is a little mark of appreciation, but their achievement is priceless. Notably, India stayed unbeaten throughout the event, defeating Australia in the semi-finals and then dominating England in the final on Saturday.
Following their historic victory against England on Saturday, the Indian delegation met with the Indian High Commissioner in Guyana. The players were exhausted, but they loved taking selfies with West Indies legend Sir Curtly Ambrose, who was in attendance for the ceremony.
India won the U19 World Cup for the fifth time, maintaining their position as the most successful team in the tournament’s history. Yash Dhull joins an elite line of leaders who have won the showpiece event in the past, including Mohammad Kaif (2000), Virat Kohli (2008), Unmukt Chand (2012), and Prithvi Shaw (2018).
