Suryakumar, Mandhana Shortlisted for T20I cricketer of the Year

Suryakumar, Mandhana Shortlisted for T20I cricketer of the Year : The International Cricket Council (ICC) nominated India’s standout hitters Suryakumar Yadav and Smriti Mandhana for the Men’s and Women’s T20I Cricketer of 2022 awards on Friday.

Surya has been nominated for the prestigious prize with England’s Sam Curran, Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza, and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan.

While Mandhana is competing for the prize alongside Pakistan’s Nida Dar, Australia’s Tahlia McGrath, and New Zealand’s Sophie Divine.

Suryakumar had a fantastic 2022, becoming becoming the second batter in the shortest format to hit more than 1000 runs in a year. He finished the year as the leading run-scorer, with 1164 runs scored at a ludicrous strike rate of 187.43.

His 68 sixes in T20Is in a calendar year are the most by anybody. Yadav’s amazing consistency in the format is mirrored in his average, which was in the mid-40s. Yadav was the top men’s T20I hitter of the year, with two hundreds and nine half-centuries.

SKY hit three fifties in six innings at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, averaging over 60 and striking with a strike rate of 189.68.

He maintained his outstanding year following the event, scoring his second T20I century of the year in a bilateral series in New Zealand. Yadav also became the top-ranked ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings in the year, with a career-high 890 rating points.

For the second year in a row, Mandhana has been nominated in the same category. Mandhana had a fantastic 2022, amassing 594 runs in 23 matches with five half-centuries.

Mandhana had a good year this year, from smashing the fastest fifty by an Indian woman (off just 23 balls) to breaking the 2500-run mark in T20Is, leaving her mark on the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the Women’s T20 Asia Cup in Bangladesh, and a memorable five-match T20I home series against Australia towards the end of a fruitful year.
