KL Rahul Reflects on Overcoming Injuries, Doubts, & Mentoring Jaiswal
Sunil Gavaskar believes Harshal deserved every penny he received at the auction.
Many Indian cricket team stars participated in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction and received big deals from clubs. Ishan Kishan, Deepak Chahar, Shreyas Iyer, and Harshal Patel were among the capped players who walked away with large sums of money during the auction.
Ishan was the most expensive acquisition in the mega auction, selling for INR 15.25 crore to Mumbai Indians. Deepak was acquired for Rs. 14 crores by Chennai Super Kings, Shreyas for Rs. 12.25 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders, and Shardul and Harshal were bought for Rs. 10.75 crore apiece by Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Though some think that some of these stars received more bids than they should have, Sunil Gavaskar believes that Harshal Patel deserves every penny he received at the auction.
“Look, he’s earned every pound and rupee he’s received at the auction. Last year, he had an outstanding performance. The most impressive aspect of Harshal Patel is how he has remade himself. Previously, he was a bowler batsmen feared because he lacked any change of speed. He was going on a lot of runs. He is learning from it, and he has improved because of it. He is now the bowler that batsmen avoid because they don’t know what he is going to throw “Gavaskar told Star Sports.
Further elaborating on Harshal’s abilities, Gavaskar stated that the seamer is quite adept in the shortest format. His slower ones, yorkers, and sliding deliveries are difficult to read.
“He has a great yorker.” He’s having a slow bouncer. He has a delivery that skids along very beautifully, so he has the works, and he understands when to utilise it thanks to his experience playing in the IPL for the previous few years. “He’s gotten better every year,” Gavaskar added.
Harshal has ended the IPL 2021 season as the highest wicket-taker, with 32 scalps. He was not one of the three players retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore following the IPL 2021 season. RCB, on the other hand, went the extra mile to re-sign him at the auction and was successful.
