First up, Anju was asked about the players and teams that can get us a gold medal at the CWG 2022.
“There are many events, where our players can bring us a gold medal. One such event is Hockey. In the current time, Hockey is celebrated as much as Cricket, in our country. As for the individual athlete games, we can expect a lot of medals from them.”
“Shooting is not there but, we have great talent in sports like Boxing, Swimming, Wrestling. We have performed at the biggest of the stages aka Olympics and the Commonwealth games are not that much of a competition.”
“In-fact, we are expecting a high count of medals, around 60-65 off them at the CWG 2022.”
Next up, Anju Bobby George shares her 2-cents on India’ best athlete in women’s long jump, Aishwarya Babu.
“Aishwarya is relatively a new face. She has been doing an amazing job in India but, she is yet to participate in International competition.”
“The pressure and situation during that moment is something that she has never experienced. I would like to give her my best of wishes and without any pressure, I believe she could perform to her potential at the event.”
Lastly, Anju Bobby George speaks about the support that this crop of athletes have been receiving from the Government.
In almost each sport, the Government has organized training camps, that have helped settle the nerves of the athletes and instill confidence in them and their game.
“Compared to the previous events, this is the only time that the government has properly supported the athletes and backed them to do well. This support from the government, started around 2-3 years ago.”
“The only time this much support had been shown, was in 2010, when India hosted the Commonwealth Games that year. This time around, the athletes are getting support for an event happening on international soil.”
Commonwealth Games 2022, will commence on the 28th of July in UK. The games will last till the 9th of August.
