Sports trumpet exclusive with Olympic bronze medalist PR Sreejesh
CWG 2022: Sreejesh is the field Hockey keeper for India and a former Indian team captain. His efforts in goal came into limelight at the Tokyo Olympics.
Sreejesh’ heroics helped save India aplenty of times and as a result, India went on to win the Bronze medal at the Olympics in Hockey.
Sreejesh also won the prestigious World Games Athlete of the Year 2021, for his amazing performance. He became only the 2nd Indian to do so. Indian women’s Hockey team captain Rani Rampal, achieved this feat in 2019.
Today, in the send off ceremony for the Commonwealth games squad for India, Sreejesh was also present.
In an interview with us, Sreejesh talks about the ongoing preparations for the CWG events, commecing on 28th July in England.
“Usually for preparations, we stay in a camp. For the last 4 months, we have been in a preparatory camp, based in Bangalore. We had a 4 day break in the middle, whilst also travelling to Europe to play Holland and Olympic Gold medalists, Belgium.”
“Playing such big teams, in front of their crowd is a memorable experience and we are lucky to have had this opportunity. The experience of playing tense international matches against top teams has definitely helped us in preparing for the Commonwealth Games, 2022.”
“Big names such as Australia, New Zealand, England, Pakistan, Malaysia etc will be participating at the CWG 2022 but, with the matches and the practice we have been having, we feel we will perform well in England.”
The first match that the Indian team will face Ghana on 31st July. The match will commence from 7:30 pm IST.
