Harsh Paudwal aka Soul Godlin aka Soul Goblin has taken the Battlegrounds Mobile India circuit by a storm. From buying a house at just 17 years of age to representing India at the Global level(PMWI), Goblin’s rise has been stellar.
Having been scouted and added to the much famed Team Soul, Goblin has reached new heights in the field of E-Sports. Soul Goblin at a tender age of 18 has become a household name in BGMI.
A calm, composed and a deadly player, Goblin has left many fans, players and even coaches mesmerized with his game sense and his frags in both, Official and Unofficial tournaments.
His latest achievements include getting the Eliminator Award(player with most finished) and the Tapatap Award(Player with most headshots) in the LAN event hosted by NODWIN Gaming, broadcasted by LOCO and STAR Sports.
Along with these achievements, Goblin has got the MVP title in an Official tournament(BMPS), whilst becoming the fastest player to get to a 100 kills in official tournaments.
He and Team Soul won the Battlegrounds Mobile India Pro Series and will represent the country in the PUBG Mobile World Invitational, happening in Riyadh.
Before the start of Day 5 of the Finals of the LAN event by NODWIN Gaming, Sports Trumpet got an opportunity to interview Goblin, where he reveals how he rose to fame, the hardships he has faced and what he and Team Soul are planning for the future.
First up, Goblin speaks about the reasons behind him joining and pursuing a career in E-Sports.
“I love playing games, it’s one of my favorite pass-times. Be it playing outdoor games in the society or indoor games such as chess, I was always the first person to show up.”
“Later, E-Sports started gaining fame and my friends and I started playing this game. While playing, I realized that E-Sports is an area, which I can excel in. So I decided to join this field.”
“As a result, I started playing this game and saw a steady growth in my fame. I have worked very hard to reach this level.”
Goblin also had a few words of advice for the players who want to join E-Sports community.
“There is one crucial thing that all the players need to know. To be successful in E-Sports, especially BGMI, you need to learn the difference between addiction and focus.”
“You need to focus on the game, polish your skills but NOT GET ADDICTED to it. Along with playing the game, you need to focus on studies, your physical activities. Whilst playing and enjoying the game, do not forget that outings with friend, family is just as important.”
“Take me for instance. Daily I go for running, have outings with my friends and mom. I am in college, I study too. 1 cannot play the game 24/7. If people play the game the whole day, they’ll get addicted to it and soon face problems like Depression and Mental Stress.”
Next up, Goblin shares his journey from playing on his mothers phone to representing one of the most renowned BGMI teams on Indian Television.
“My mom is a teacher, so life wasn’t as easy going. Both of us had to adjust in order to keep happy. But as I started playing, my income started to increase as well.”
“My first income from the game was a meagre 150 Rupees. Gradually, I started getting sponsors and I was able to buy a phone that costed around Rs 15K – Rs 20K.”
“After the lockdown, I started to get more fame. There was a significant increase in my sponsorship deals and on the back of it, I bought a house(on EMI) at the age of 17!”
“Now that I have joined Team Soul, I do not worry about money anymore. I have paid off the EMI and bought a house for my mother. But, this is not where I want to stop, I want to continue growing, I do not want to settle down this early.”
“Today, I am playing a major event that is broadcasted Live on Television. My mom is extremely proud of me and I hope I can continue doing so.”
“I’ve always wanted to do something for my mother and being an average boy was not the best possible solution. I want to keep her happy, keep myself happy and help my team become the best. Hopefully I will be able to continue emulating my performances and keep brining joy to my close ones.”
Goblin also speaks about how he and his team have gelled together in a short span of time, while tasting success.
“I have been playing with my current team for around 5-6 months. Together, we have achieved a lot together and we hope we continue lifting trophies and make all our loved ones and our fans feel proud of us. Things are panning out well for us. We just need to work more on our call-outs but, things are going well and we will improve as time passes by.”
Lastly, Goblin speaks about the LAN event experience.
“This is the 2nd LAN event, that has been conducted since the launch of BGMI last year. We were unable to participate in the first LAN event because of some unfortunate issues that I faced while travelling.”
“We were placed 3rd before the final day commenced but unfortunately, we slipped up and had to settle for a 6th place finish.
“As you know, we will be representing the tricolored flag in Riyadh at the PUBG Mobile World Invitational, commencing in a couple of weeks time. Right now, our main focus is to build confidence and continue it till the World event commences on 11th August.”
Team Soul will now participate in the Official LAN event hosted by Krafton. The winner of this event will go on to represent India in the Afterparty Showdown, beginning on 18th of August. The event is set to be hosted in Riyadh.
As Team Soul is going to play in the 1st week of PMWI, they need to finish in the top 5 there, in order to participate in the Afterparty Showdown.
So even if Team Soul wins this BGMI LAN, the 2nd placed team will be sent to Riyadh instead.
