On Saturday, Ayabonga Khaka returned with four wickets at the University Oval in Dunedin. Trying to chase down 208 runs, Bangladesh got off to a good start. Shamima Sultana and Sharmin Akhter combined for 27 runs in the first 10 overs and were able to dismiss Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp. 69 runs were added to the first wicket stand of the innings by the opening pair.
However, the game’s tone turned as the Proteas captured four wickets in quick succession, reducing Bangladesh to 85/4 in the 27th over. Rumana Ahmed and Nigar Sultana then teamed up to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
Bangladesh was reduced to 113/6, still 95 runs short of the mark, as the duo put up 23 runs for the fifth wicket. However, South Africa roared back into the game with two wickets in rapid succession, and Bangladesh was reduced to 113/6.
In the end, South Africa kept its nerve to win by 32 runs.
Fariha Trisna grabbed three wickets in Bangladesh’s 207-run victory over South Africa. As the Proteas were knocked out for a modest total, Jahanara Alam and Ritu Moni both took two wickets.
South Africa was led by Marizanne Kapp, who scored 42 runs, and Laura Wolvaardt, who scored 41.
