BCCI President has hinted at possible venues for IPL 2022 matches.

Sourav Ganguly, president of the BCCI, confirmed on Thursday that the India Premier League (IPL) 2022 will be entirely hosted in India ‘unless the COVID-19 hits the roof’.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to kick off on March 27. The tournament now has two new teams. This year’s IPL will also see the addition of two new franchises, the Lucknow Super Giants, and the Ahmedabad team. IPL 2022 will now feature ten teams. The tournament will now have 74 matches with the addition of the two franchises. Ten teams will begin a bidding war for their favourite players.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Sportstar, Ganguly revealed that the IPL 2022 league stage matches will be held in Mumbai and Pune, with the venue for knockout games to be determined later.

“It (IPL 2022) will be held in India this year, until and unless the COVID-19 hits the roof. So far, it has been decided that the IPL will be played in India. As far as venues are concerned, we are looking at hosting the matches in Maharashtra – Mumbai, and Pune. We will then take a call on the venue for the knockout stages,” Ganguly said.

The BCCI has yet to officially announce the start date of the IPL 2022, but board secretary Jay Shah has hinted that the tournament will most likely begin near the end of March.

All the franchises will look to build a strong team by selecting the right players during the two-day mega auction, which will be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. There will be 590 cricketers auctioned, with all eyes on big names like Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Yuzvendra Chahal, David Warner, Quinton de Kock, Pat Cummins, Faf du Plessis, and Jofra Archer.

The ten franchises have already retained 33 cricketers, who will now look to build a team around the superstars.
