Shikhar Dhawan set to be named captain of Punjab Kings

Indian cricket team opener Shikhar Dhawan is all set to become the new Punjab Kings captain in the 15^th edition of the Tata Indian Premier League 2022. The Punjab Kings had invested a massive Rs 8.25 Crore on the 36-year-old and were also looking for a new captain to lead their new team after their former captain K.L Rahul had decided to switch sides and go to the new IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants. The former Delhi Capitals player Shikhar would be looking forward to playing for the Punjab side and even took to his Twitter account to share his feelings on his arrival to the Punjab Kings.

A source that is close to the PBKS team management was quoted saying that Shikhar is the first choice as of now for the captainship on an InsideSport website.

 “Team is very elated to have Shikhar Dhawan in the squad. Dhawan has a mature head on his shoulders and will be entrusted to lead Punjab in IPL. Coach, promoters all are in favour of Dhawan as captain of Punjab Kings. The official announcement will be made in the next few days.” they said.

His new Punjab Kings coach Anil Kumble was also full of praise for the player and said “Oh, he is a great addition to the squad. His maturity will rub on other squad members. Everyone around can learn from him. He will be the perfect leader for the team in every respect”.

The Punjab Kings are looking like a strong side this time round after undergoing a good auction this year and buying the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Shahrukh, Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow, Odean Smith, Kagiso Rabada, and India U-19 star Raj Bawa.
