Shikhar Dhawan back in contention for the Orange Cap
IPL 2022: On the back of an outstanding knock by Shikhar Dhawan against CSK yesterday, he has entered the top 3 in the race for the Orange Cap, led by Buttler.
Shikhar Dhawan has now scored 302 runs in 8 innings, 4 runs ahead of 4th placed Hardik Pandya.
Dhawan scored an unbeaten 88 off 59 balls to guide PBKS to 187/4, whcich they successfully defended. Shikhar Dhawan has been consistent throughout the seasons and became only the 2nd batsman to score 6,000 IPL runs, yesterday. The other one to do so is star Indian Batsman Virat Kohli.
En-route his 88, Dhawan broke a couple of records. 1 off them being the 2nd ever batsman to score 6,000 runs in IPL and the 2nd one being him getting 9,000+ runs in T20 cricket!
He achieved all of this in his 200th appearance in the IPL. Add to this the win against CSK, it was quite an eventful day for Dhawan. He will remember this outing for the rest of his life.
Still, the batsman at the top will be unfazed by Dhawan’s form. Jos Buttler, is in the nick of his life, averaging 8.83 runs in the 7 innings he has played. He has scored 491 runs in 7 innings.
This includes 3 centuries, 2 off which have come in the last 2 matches vs DC and KKR. He would hope to continue his rich vein of form, when RR take on RCB tonight at the MCA International Stadium, Pune.

Second on the list is KL Rahul, the Lucknow Super Giants skipper. Rahul has scored 368 runs in the 8 matches that he has played in. He had a nightmarish start to the IPL, getting out for a golden duck against Gujarat Titans. Mohammed Shami bowled a peach of a ball to get rid of him.

4th place in the list belongs to the Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya. The Indian all rounder has found his feet again with the bat. He alongside Miller and Shubman Gill has starred for the table toppers with the bat. Hardik Pandya has score 295 runs in just 6 matches, scoring at a strike rate of 150.72.
He has also contributed with the ball as well as lead GT to the top of the table spot.
5th placed is an uncapped player, one of the few positives for MI in this disappointing campaign, Tilak Varma – the young star has caught the eye of many pundits and players, for his fearless style of play. He is getting runs consistently, while big money stars like Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma are failing to deliver. He is definitely someone to watch out for in the upcoming IPL seasons. Varma has scored 272 runs in 8 matches at an average of 45.
