Shakib stars as Bangladesh grab first ever win in South Africa
Bangladesh have beaten the South African cricket team in a one-day international in South Africa for the first time ever on Friday and did it in a convincing manner as well by taking the series-opener by 38 runs.
Bangladesh’s batting contingent set up the history-making win with Shakib Al Hasan (77), Litton Das (50) and Yasir Ali (50) all hitting match winning half-centuries to put up a strong total of 314-7 on the board.
It was Bangladesh’s best ever total they have managed to conjure in South Africa and came after the losing team won the toss and put the visitors in to bat at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
Spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz gave a spectacular bowling display which dismantled South Africa as the bowler ended his nine over spell with 4-61 and the Proteas were bowled out for 276 in 48.5 overs.
The match result had been decided way before the last wicket was taken. The key moment had come before when Bangladesh managed to get rid of South Africa’s last hope David Miller on 79 runs and put Bangladesh on the brink of a first victory in 20 years in the host country.
