Samson, Sangakkara confident that the auction will be successful for the Royals
Sanju Samson of the Rajasthan Royals and Kumar Sangakkara, Director of Cricket, are sure that the previous champions would perform well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction, which will take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru.
The mega auction, according to Sanju Samson, would be highly significant for the Rajasthan Royals, who are trying to construct a core group for the next 4-5 years.
The Royals have kept three players: Samson, England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler, and young India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The Royals will enter the auction with a budget of Rs 58 crore.
“This auction is critical because we know we might be preparing our basis for the next 5-6 years,” Samson explained.
“So, we’ve made sure to follow everyone and provide as many players as possible the opportunity during the trials,” Samson explained. “Our objective is now to target the ones we think match with our vision, can embrace our values, and assist our team going back to the top.”
Meanwhile, Sangakkara gave some insight on the Royals’ preparations for the huge auction, stating that their rigorous analytical analyses will come in helpful on Saturday and Sunday.
Our analytics go far beyond the information we collect on players, which we then integrate into a central database. We further filter the data, which is then backed by a robust analytic process that allows us to determine the correct metrics and further refine our overall player identification process,” he said.
This will be the fifth mega auction in the IPL’s history, and all the previous ones have been quite shocking for a variety of reasons.
