Sakibul Gani score triple century in his first-class debut.
Sakibul Gani, a 22-year-old Bihar baiter, set a new world record for the greatest score by a batsman on debut in first-class cricket on Friday. Gani hit 341 runs for Bihar in their Plate group opener against Mizoram at the Jadavpur University Campus 2nd Ground in Kolkata.
Saakibul Gani smashed two sixes and 56 boundaries in his 341-ball innings in Bihar’s first innings. Gani becomes the first hitter in global cricket history to score a triple century on their first-class debut.
Gani beat the record formerly held by another Indian, Madhya Pradesh’s Ajay Rohera. In the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season, Rohera made his first-class debut against Hyderabad, scoring 267.
Gani also had a 538-run fourth-wicket partnership with Babul Kumar, who also scored a double hundred for Bihar on Friday. Gani and Babul joined forces after Bihar lost early wickets and fell to 71/3. On Thursday, they batted all day, and their partnership was broken on Friday when the scoreboard showed 609.
Gani, from Motihari, has previously appeared in 14 List A matches, hitting 377 runs, including a century, and 11 T20Is, scoring 192 runs, including a fifty for Bihar.
