Rohit Sharma is on the verge of joining the elite T20I list led by Babar Azam

When India plays Sri Lanka in the third Twenty20 International on Sunday at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, skipper Rohit Sharma will be looking for another win. Rohit, who recently passed Martin Guptill as the greatest T20I run-scorer, is only 18 runs away from being the first Indian captain to reach 1000 T20I runs. Rohit, who is set to take leadership of the Indian side for the 28th time in T20Is on Sunday, might become the second-fastest person to attain this milestone, after only Pakistan skipper Babar Azam.

Rohit will become India’s third skipper to achieve this achievement, following Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.

The 34-year-old batsman struggled in the second T20I and would be looking to finish the series on a high note.

If India wins the third and final T20I against Sri Lanka, they will achieve the highest victory total against a team in T20Is with 17 victories.

For the 11th time in a row, India has defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in T20, and they will be looking to make it 12 when the teams meet again on Sunday.

After being put to bat, Sri Lanka scored 183 for five and India’s batsmen stole the show.

Shreyas Iyer led the attack with a 44-ball 74, while Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja cameoed with 39 and 45*, respectively, to help India cross the line with 17 balls to spare.

Following the end of the T20I series, India and Sri Lanka will play a two-match Test series.
