Jasprit Bumrah’s Workload Debate: Balwinder Singh Sandhu Criticizes Modern “Workload
Rohit Sharma is on his way to become the most capped T20I player.
Rohit Sharma will enter the T20I series against Sri Lanka nearing a couple of key milestones in his illustrious career in the shortest version of the game. From February 24 to 27, Rohit will captain the team in a three-match series against the visitors.
Rohit Sharma is on course to beat Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik for the most T20I appearances. Rohit is already India’s most-capped player, and if he plays all three matches against Sri Lanka, he will create a new global record, surpassing Malik’s tally of 124 matches.
Only nine cricketers have played more than 100 men’s T20Is, with Rohit being the only Indian on the list. MS Dhoni (98) is the second most-capped Indian, with 97 matches, followed by Virat Kohli (97). However, the former skipper has been rested for the three-match series against Sri Lanka, which will be contested in Lucknow and Dharamsala.
On the eve of the first T20I against Bangladesh, Rohit downplayed fitness worries and stated that he expects to be ready for most matches despite taking over as captain of the team across all forms. In the recent past, Rohit has been hampered by injury difficulties. He was unable to participate in the South African trip, but the selection committee is confident in Rohit’s fitness in the run-up to the T20 World Cup and the 50-over World Cup next year.
“I have no difficulties at the moment and am looking forward to playing all the games,” Rohit said on Wednesday.
If you understand what you do and take things day by day, the pressure is always contingent on what follows. If a break is necessary, you take a break and someone else comes in.”
Meanwhile, Rohit has a chance to pass Martin Guptill and become the top run-scorer in T20I cricket. Rohit is presently ranked third, trailing only Guptill (3299) and Virat Kohli (3296). With 3263 runs, India’s skipper needs 37 more to become the all-time highest scorer in the game’s shortest format.
Meanwhile, Rohit needs 63 runs in the first T20I to beat Pakistan player Babar Azam’s record for the fastest to 1000 runs as a skipper in T20Is. As captain, Rohit has 937 runs in 25 innings at an incredible average of 40.73 and a strike rate of above 150.
