Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have confirmed their participation in the 2022 Laver Cup, which is scheduled to be held in London from September 22 to 25.
Federer, who has been unfit due to a knee injury since July, and Nadal, who has just won his 21st Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, announced on Thursday that they will represent Team Europe in London.
I am looking forward to returning to competition later this year and the Laver Cup is very much part of my plans,” said Federer, whose management company founded the competition.
Federer said Nadal sent him a message last year suggesting they play doubles together in the Laver Cup. While competing for the first Laver Cup in 2017, they won doubles match together.
With his win at the Australian Open, Rafael Nadal became the first man to win 21 Grand Slam titles, surpassing Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. He said: “I have enjoyed competing in the Laver Cup.”
I have known Roger as both a rival and a friend throughout my career. The opportunity to represent Team Europe together is exciting and if we’re able to play as a double pairing one more time, that would be a truly memorable experience for us both in this stage of our careers.
Having the chance to play doubles together one more time would be a truly special experience for us both at this stage of our careers,” Nadal said.
