Rishabh Pant’s Injury Update: Optimism for Pune Test Against New Zealand
NEW DELHI: As the excitement builds for the upcoming second Test against New Zealand, Indian cricket fans have reason to be hopeful about Rishabh Pant’s potential return to the lineup. India’s assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, shared an optimistic injury update during a press conference on October 22, confirming that the talented wicketkeeper-batter is showing signs of recovery from a knee injury sustained in the previous Test match.
Rishabh Pant suffered a left knee injury on October 17 during the Bengaluru Test, which forced him to leave the field early on Day 2. The injury occurred while Pant attempted to collect a delivery during New Zealand’s innings, and his immediate discomfort prompted the medical team to rush onto the field for assistance. Despite battling through the pain to score an impressive 99 runs, he was unable to take the field for the second innings, leaving substitute wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel to take over the gloves.
Despite Pant’s valiant efforts, the Indian team fell short, losing the match by eight wickets. However, the focus now shifts to Pant’s recovery as the team prepares for the Pune Test, set to commence on October 24. Ten Doeschate expressed confidence in Pant’s fitness, stating, “Rishabh is pretty good. He had some discomfort at the end range of his movement with the knee, but fingers crossed he’ll be good to keep in the Test as well.”
The assistant coach also reassured fans that the team is in good spirits overall, highlighting that the fast bowlers have had ample rest following a Test with limited bowling. With Pant’s return, the team hopes to regain a key player who has been instrumental since rejoining the Test squad, scoring a century against Bangladesh before his injury.
As fans eagerly await the official announcement regarding Pant’s participation in the Pune Test, the cricket community holds its breath, hoping for a swift recovery. With the team’s momentum and Pant’s explosive batting form, the stage is set for an exciting showdown against New Zealand.
Stay tuned as we continue to follow this developing story leading up to the highly anticipated match.
