Rishabh Pant set to Leave Delhi Capitals before IPL 2025
In a major shift within the Indian Premier League, Rishabh Pant is set to leave the Delhi Capitals as contract negotiations between the franchise’s management (GMR Group) and the star wicketkeeper-batsman have reportedly reached a standstill. With Pant now expected to enter the IPL 2025 auction pool, he is poised to become one of the biggest and most sought-after players this season, possibly setting new records for bidding wars among teams.
According to sources, Delhi Capitals have already identified the players they plan to retain, including all-rounder Axar Patel, spinner Kuldeep Yadav, promising young talent Abishek Porel, and the dynamic South African batter Tristan Stubbs. These selections are aimed at strengthening the core of the Capitals’ lineup, while Pant’s departure opens the door for a new direction and leadership structure within the team.
Despite Pant’s exit, the Delhi Capitals retain two Right to Match (RTM) cards, which could allow them a final opportunity to either reclaim Pant or potentially bid for another big player. Speculation suggests that Delhi Capitals could attempt to buy back Pant at the auction, but the management is also eyeing a possible return for former DC captain Shreyas Iyer. Iyer’s experience with the franchise and leadership qualities make him a strategic choice, should the Capitals seek to reinforce their leadership for IPL 2025.
