Rishabh Pant excluded for Sri Lanka ODIs, T20s
Rishabh Pant excluded for Sri Lanka ODIs, T20s : The senior national selection committee named Hardik Pandya as vice-captain for the ODIs while he continues to lead in T20Is, providing a clear indication of the direction the team is headed in. The selection committee was tasked with selecting the squad for India’s limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.
Sanju Samson is also unlikely to be involved in the World Cup plans for next year after being left off the ODI team but retained for the T20s. The wicketkeepers for the ODIs have been announced as KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan.
Rishabh Pant is surprisingly not included in any of the teams. If Pant was hurt, rested, or dropped, it wasn’t made clear in the news statement published by the BCCI.
Since the BCCI opted to rest him before the two-match Test series, the Delhi wicketkeeper didn’t play in the ODIs against Bangladesh. The pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the other conspicuous absence.
Although veteran players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rahul were left out of the T20I team, they were all selected for the ODI series that gets underway on January 10. Both sides omitted all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who underwent knee surgery, and bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the T20 World Cup due to a back ailment.
Shivam Mavi was the sole unexpected call, as he was given his first call-up to the national team. The three-match T20I series, which starts on January 3 in Mumbai, will feature the 24-year-old pacer from Uttar Pradesh.
Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Yuzvendra Chahal are included in both teams, however Kuldeep Yadav is only selected for the ODI team.
Despite impressive T20 statistics, Prithvi Shaw of Mumbai was passed over by the selectors, who instead chose Ruturaj Gaikwad to be one of the three openers with Kishan and Shubman Gill. Shaw, despite having a fantastic T20 strike-rate of 151.67, has once again gone unnoticed despite India’s failure to use the majority of the powerplay overs.
