Rishabh Pant Breaks Silence on Delhi Capitals Exit

Indian wicket-keeper and explosive batter Rishabh Pant, a headline name in the IPL 2025 mega auction, has addressed speculation about his departure from Delhi Capitals. Contrary to reports suggesting a fallout over his retention fee, Pant clarified that money was not a factor in his decision to leave the franchise.

Pant’s response comes after legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar hinted at a possible disagreement over the retention fee as the reason behind Pant’s exit. Speaking in a video shared by Star Sports, Gavaskar explained how players sometimes opt to test their value in the auction, and he expects Delhi Capitals to aggressively bid for Pant in the upcoming auction.

“Delhi would certainly want Rishabh Pant back in their squad. Often, when retention negotiations happen, there are discussions between the player and the franchise about the fee. Some retained players end up earning more than the No. 1 retention fee in the auction,” said Gavaskar.

“Perhaps there was a disagreement over the expected fee. My feeling is that Delhi will definitely target Pant again because they need a captain. If Pant is not part of their squad, they will have to search for a new leader,” Gavaskar added.

Reacting to Gavaskar’s comments, Pant clarified his stance through a post on X (formerly Twitter):

“My retention wasn’t about the money, for sure, that I can say.”

This statement puts to rest the speculation that financial disagreements led to his release from Delhi Capitals, a team he captained in previous seasons.

With Pant available in the auction pool, he is expected to be one of the most sought-after players. His talent, leadership skills, and impact in both batting and wicket-keeping make him a priority for many franchises. Reports indicate that all 10 IPL teams are keen to bid for the star player. However, franchise purse balances suggest that teams like Punjab Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, or Royal Challengers Bangalore might have a better shot at acquiring him. Even a return to Delhi Capitals cannot be ruled out.

Pant’s departure from Delhi Capitals has added intrigue to the IPL 2025 auction. As a young leader with immense batting firepower, he is a player who can change the dynamics of any team. His presence in the auction has already created a buzz among fans and franchises alike.

With the auction set to be one of the most exciting in IPL history, the spotlight will undoubtedly be on Rishabh Pant’s next destination. Will he reunite with Delhi, or will a new franchise claim the coveted wicket-keeper batter? Only time will tell.
