The eagerly awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy is just around the corner, and cricket experts have already started making predictions. Among them, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has forecasted a 3-1 series victory in favor of Australia over India. Ponting highlighted the absence of fast bowler Mohammed Shami from the Indian squad, suggesting that India will face a tough time taking 20 wickets per match despite the inclusion of pace ace Jasprit Bumrah.
“Shami’s absence is a huge setback for India’s bowling attack,” Ponting shared with the ICC. “When I checked back in August, there was still uncertainty about Shami’s fitness. Taking 20 wickets in a Test could be India’s toughest challenge without him. They may have a solid batting lineup, but taking wickets consistently is crucial here.”
Although India claimed victories on their last two Australian tours, Ponting predicts they might secure just a single win this time. India faces several issues heading into the series, including a recent 0-3 loss to New Zealand, which has shaken their confidence, and a batting lineup showing signs of vulnerability.
