Ricky Ponting: Prithvi as talented as I, if not more.

Speaking on the Delhi Capitals Podcast, coach Ricky Ponting praised the young DC opener Prithvi Shaw.

IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals are playing some exciting cricket under the guidance of Ricky Ponting. Currently, DC are 6th in the table, having won 2 off the 4 games.

Who is Ricky Ponting?

Ricky Ponting is one of the most successful captains to grace the game of cricket.

The former Australian player has played in 4 world cup finals from 1996-2011, winning 3 of them.

He was the skipper when Australia won the 2003 and 2007 world cup.

Not only was he a brilliant leader, but also a classy batsman who has amassed over 13,000 runs in both International Test as well as One Day International cricket.

Delhi Capitals(the then Delhi Daredevils), chose Ricky Ponting to be their new coach in 2018.

Since then, he has helped DC to a final in 2020, where his team lost to record Champions Mumbai Indians.

DC under Ponting has managed to qualify for the playoffs thrice in a row, 2019,20 and 2021.

A stellar job done by Ponting but, he is yet to win the IPL title.

Speaking on the podcast, Ponting said” I want to be able to turn Prithvi Shaw into a player that plays over a 100 test matches for India and represent his country as much as possible”

This speaks a lot about the admiration that Ponting has for Prithvi Shaw.

He spoke that he wanted to have the same impact in his time at Mumbai Indians. He wanted to impart his wisdom to youngsters like Hardik Pandya etc.

Alongside winning titles, Ponting hopes to help the players grow in their career. Have a positive impact on the players and help them become great international players.

Prithvi Shaw was retained by the Delhi Capitals for INR 7.50 crore before the Tata IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

He has scored 160 runs in 4 innings, at a very impressive strike rate of 170.21.

This includes 2 50’s, last one being a 27 ball half century in the last game vs KKR.
