Real Madrid player Dies In A Car Accident at 55
Freddy Rincon – Former Colombia captain and Real Madrid player has died after being involved in a car crash.
Freddy Rincon, a Colombian footballer who represented many big clubs like Real Madrid, Napoli etc has died at the age of 55 after being injured in a car crash.
Who is Freddy Rincon?
Freddy Eusebio Rincon is a former Colombia captain who represented his country 84 times between 1990 and 2001.
A versatile midfield player who could play wherever the manager asked him to. Rincon represented Colombia at the 1990, 1994 and the 1998 world cup.
He along with Faustino Asprilla scored 5 goals against Argentina at the 1994 world cup. His performance earned a lot of plaudits as Parma were tempted into signing him.
Unfoturnately, there was a max 3 foreigner rule in the Serie A that time. Hence, Freddy was loaned out to Napoli, before being sold to Real Madrid.
In the latter part of his career, Rincon represented Brazilian club Corinthians. There he won the Brazilian championship twice, before winning the FIFA Club World Cup in 2000, his greatest achievement.
As for goals, Rincon scored 152 goals in 608 appearances overall.17 off them came for his national team.
Unfortunately, Rincon could not open his account for Real Madrid. He represented the Los Blancos 21 times between 1997-97.
On Monday, 11th April 2022, Rincon’s vehicle collided with a bus in Cali, leaving the footballer critically injured.
2 days later, Rincon succumbed to his injuries.
Colombian Soccer federation posted news of Rincon’s death on their website on Wednesday. It read “They deeply regret the passing of Freddy Rincon and are sending a message of support and encouragement to Rincon’s family, friends and relatives.”
