The Ranji Trophy is a domestic first-class cricket championship played in India. The Ranji trophy is played with multiple teams representing regional and state cricket associations.
The 2020-21 Ranji Trophy season was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ranji Trophy consists of 38 teams.
Due to Covid-related concerns and restrictions, the Ranji Trophy was postponed indefinitely in the last season as well. This year Ranji Trophy was scheduled to start on 13th January. However, it was postponed due to the outbreak of a new strain coronavirus in India named omicron.
The BCCI secretary Jay Shan said that the Ranji Trophy would be held in two phases this season. All the matches of the league stage will play in the first phase. While the second phase will have knockout matches. The knockout matches will be held in June.
He also said that the structure grouping and venues of the Ranji Trophy 2022 will be conveyed soon to states associations.
The plan is to hold the league phase for one month, beginning in February and ending in March, and then to have the next phase in late June or early July. when the monsoon season will be at its peak in many parts of India.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will get underway in March end and the tournament will get over in May, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had earlier confirmed. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to get a start in the final week of March and run till the final week of May.
