PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS MANCHESTER CITY ARRIVE IN INDIA FOR CHAMPIONS
Ranji Trophy – Know the story!
The Ranji Trophy is an Indian domestic first-class cricket competition between numerous teams representing different state and regional cricket bodies.
There are now 38 teams in the league, with at least one squad from each of the 28 Indian states and four of the eight union territories.
Who was this named after?
Maharaja Jam Saheb, the princely empire of Nawanagar, was ruled by Ranjitsinhji. He participated in both the Cambridge College team and the English team.
He began playing cricket with the Cambridgeshire County Cricket club while completing his higher education in England. Later, he participated in English county play with Sussex.
Often referred to as Ranji or K. S. Ranjitsinhji, Colonel H. H. Shri Sir Ranjitsinhji Vibhaji I was a well-known Test cricketer.
One of his generation’s greatest batsmen, Ranji, is well regarded.
He was referred to as “the Midsummer night’s dream of cricket” by Neville Cardus. He altered the game of batting by using unorthodox technique and quick reactions.
The Ranji Trophy, India’s oldest cricket competition, holds his name and was established in 1935 by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala.
Which Teams can compete for this?
Teams representing the Indian states make up the majority of the Ranji Trophy field. Cricket teams have increased in number along with the number of political states, but not every state has a team.
Cricket teams from several states exist, especially Gujarat and Maharashtra. The military forces are also backed by teams like Railways and Services.
38 teams are split up into eight Elite Groups and one Plate Group as of the 2021–22 season. The Plate Group consists of six teams, whilst each Elite Group will have four teams.
