Rajvardhan Hangargekar, the India U19 World Cup-winning fast bowler, is overjoyed to have signed an Indian Premier League deal with four-time winners Chennai Super Kings. Hangargekar, who shined with his all-round abilities at the U19 World Cup in the West Indies, was purchased by CSK during the IPL 2022 super auction on Sunday for Rs 1.5 crore.
The 19-year-old from Maharashtra wowed everyone at the U19 World Cup with his steady 140-plus speed. He can also hit a long ball, as seen by his performance in the World Cup, when he scored at a strike rate of 185. Hangargekar.
The boy lost his father to Covid-19 in 2020, yet he recovered to put up some remarkable efforts at the U19 World Cup. The Maharashtra cricketer’s hard work paid off at the auction table, as the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings engaged in a bidding battle. CSK eventually purchased him for a winning offer of Rs 1.5 crore.
In an interaction with iplt20.com, he stated, “I’ve always been a big admirer of MS Dhoni, and my father used to be a big fan of CSK. He adored Dhoni, and he always wanted me to play for CSK. I’m thrilled to be a part of his team.”
“Everyone wants to play in the IPL, so when my name came up in the auction, that’s how much I was thrilled about. It was a terrific time for me when MI and CSK battled it out in the auction for me “Hangargekar said.
The 19-year-old further stated that he is excited to learn from MS Dhoni and that his attitude is similar to that of West Indian cricketers.
“In terms of talents, I can learn from anyone.” But he can educate me about mentality; I won’t be enthusiastic, but I will calm down and ask him questions because this opportunity won’t come around very often.” My mentality is to play like West Indian cricketers; I like to bowl quickly and hit massive sixes. “I’ve been working on my strength; all I want to do is observe the ball and hit it over the boundary,” Hangargekar explained.
Along with Hangargekar, Yash Dhull (Delhi Capitals) and Raj Bawa (Punjab Kings) secured lucrative IPL contracts in the just concluded IPL auction.
