Rahul Dravid: Now aiming to make an impact off the pitch
After a disappointing run in the ICC T20 World Cup by the Indian men’s cricket team, Indian cricket fans were not putting their hopes onto the players for what is to come in the future. The mood around Indian cricket had been really gloomy and not so full of hope it can be said. However, as it has been seen in Indian cricket over a long period of time, every setback is always driven aside by either a miracle or an inspirational move. This time, it came in the form of a change in the managerial side of things. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to make Indian legendary batsman Rahul Dravid the head coach of the Indian cricket team.
Dravid kicked off his role as the head coach of the team right after the T20 World Cup and his first assignment were completed with grace and passion as India completed their World cup revenge on New Zealand by defeating them 3-0 in the T20I series. The dominating series win eventually led to a revival of the confidence that has been put on the team by the fans for many years now. Our newly appointed Indian team ODI skipper Rohit Sharma was also full of praise for his legendary head coach and gave his opinion as well on how Dravid has brought a positive impact with him into the dressing room.
He said “Rahul Bhai was a brilliant cricketer; we all know that without a doubt. We all know how he has played his cricket. He himself has come out and said on so many occasions that he was not so talented. He had to work so hard to get where he is today. I think that is going to reflect on this team as well.”
“Making sure that we work hard as a team. That nothing is given on a platter to anyone. He will make you work hard. Obviously, when you do that, when you enjoy that process, you feel good about it. Because there is a process that has been put in place,” he added.
Another point about our new head coach which needs attention is that he personally went to each and every player to have a direct conversation as to what the particular individual’s role is in the team and how will he contribute to the team’s overall improvement well.
Rahul Dravid has been given the coaching responsibility till the 2022 ODI World Cup as of now and his main aim now will be to prepare the team for the battle of the cricketing giants in the 50 over format. His first ODI assignment did not really go like he would’ve hoped for as our team suffered disappointing losses against the South African team in the 3 match ODI series which took place in South Africa. However, Dravid’s grit and determination can never be underestimated as we have seen in the past and he will definitely come up with better results in all the 3 formats for the Indian cricket team in the future.
