KL Rahul Reflects on Overcoming Injuries, Doubts, & Mentoring Jaiswal
Rahul Bheke signs up for GISB’s Sports Management program
Rahul Bheke, who has been an integral part of the Indian Men’s Football Team for several years now, has decided to pursue the Post-Graduate Program in Sports Management from the Global Institute of Sports Business (GISB), a top-rated International Sports Management Institute. The Mumbai City FC center-back will be a part of the 2023 Elite athlete batch, which allows them to continue their playing careers while pursuing an advance International Sports Management course.
Speaking on his reasons behind taking up the program, Bheke said,
“I am a professional football player and after my playing career, I want to stay connected with sports. Pursuing Sports Management education was a perfect choice.”
“I chose GISB after extensive discussions with Chancellor – Gaurav Modwel because they understand the requirement of athletes as well as what is required to succeed at senior management level in the industry. When I went to GISB for the first time, I was impressed with the infrastructure, the course structure and most importantly the faculty line up. These are the best facilities that I have seen so far in India. Above all, the decision was easy as they demonstrated keen understanding of our unique requirements” he added.
With the program being customized to ensure that the athletes do not miss out on their studies while actively playing, Bheke thought it made perfect sense for him to pursue the course at this time. He further explained how he would be able to continue to play for Mumbai City FC in the ongoing Indian Super League 2022-23 season, while also keeping up with the lectures.
Gaurav Modwel, Chancellor of GISB was very impressed with Rahul’s vision and intentions behind joining the program.
“Rahul wants to equip himself with requisite knowledge and experience to be able to develop football in India. His desire to contribute to the Indian ecosystem is so genuine, that it became our responsibility to provide him the right pathway. Having known him, I know the intensity and discipline he brings to the pitch. I see the same fire in him to be a success Manager.”
“I found out that the program will be modified and customized according to the requirements of the athletes schedule. It will be managed as per our season timings. In case we are not available for classes because of our matches, the program has been customized to provide us with online lectures so that we do not miss out on important aspects. It will help all the athletes including myself in completing this course,” Bheke said.
Unlike most footballers, Bheke does not see a future in coaching after retirement but wishes to be a part of the administration. He believes the program will help him in achieving the goal.
“I want to help the growth of football in India and take it to the next level. I really wish to be a part of the administration aspects of the sport. After completing my football career, this course will help me in achieving this goal,” he said.
The 31-year-old footballer further went on to speak about the need for upskilling among Indian footballers and explained why it could be the need of the hour.
“If they take the sport seriously, then they need to work towards the growth of the sport as much as they can. They have seen the situation on-ground and these players bring with themselves the experience of playing the sport and understanding it from within the system when they enter administration or management-oriented roles. After completing such programs, the players will also get a deeper understanding of other aspects of the sport which will help in the development of the sport in the country,” Bheke signed off.
