Premier League Title race opens up as Defending champions City lose to Tottenham
Harry Kane led Tottenham Hotspurs to a thrilling 3-2 win against Manchester City as the England International who was the main transfer target for defending champions last summer came back to haunt them at the Etihad Stadium and showed his class by scoring two goals including a 95th-minute winner to blow the premier title race wide open. It was an enthralling game from the start as the visitors got ahead pretty early in the game when Conte’s new signing Kulusevski scored his first goal for the game in the 4th minute itself.
Manchester City, however, have been used to this situation and had come out of it many a time in the recent past. It wasn’t the same case this time as the away team managed to double their lead after Kane scored in the second half. It was all City after that as they looked to equalize late in the game. In the 92nd minute, their patience paid off as Riyad Mahrez converted a penalty won by Bernardo Silva after Cristian Romera handled the ball in the penalty area.
The game was looking all but over with only the 3 minutes of added time remaining in the game which is when Tottenham’s main man Harry Kane stepped up and scored the winning header in the 95th minute to give Conte’s men all three points. Spurs manager Antonio Conte was delighted after the win and said a few words about the team as well. He said “It was an emotional game for sure, it was an exciting game. We played a good game. We followed a plan. Manchester City would keep the possession for 65 to 70 minutes for the game so we needed to be good tactically. But even when defending our first thought should be to attack.
“We created chances and scored good goals against a fantastic team. This win will give us more confidence. It wasn’t simple to play Manchester City after three losses in a row.”
City now only have a six-point lead on second position Liverpool with the latter having a game in hand on the league leaders. This defeat puts the premier league title race into a different level as the season comes close to its climax.
