Perth Scorchers lift fourth Big Bash trophy

Big Bash League (BBL) final was played between Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers in Marvel Stadium. Sydney Sixers won the toss and chose to bowl first. By the end of six overs, Perth Scorchers were 25 for 4 wickets.

Laurie Evans smashed 76 runs from 41 balls and remained unbeaten. Evans smashed four sixes and four fours in his firing knock. While skipper Ashton turner scored 54 runs from 35 balls. The partnership of 104 runs between Ashton Turner and Laurie Evans turned the match on Pert Scorchers’ side. They posted a total of 172 runs. For Sydney Sixers Steve O’Keefe and Nathan Lyon, each took two wickets. Defending low totals has been Perth’s specialty this season.

When they lost Hayden Kerr cheaply in the second over, Sydney Sixers found themselves in a tough spot. Daniel Hughes’s quick-fire 42 runs gave them hope, but they were still far away from the target. Nicholas Bertus (15) and Jay Lenton (10) were the only players to score in double figures.

But Sydney Sixers bowled out for 92 runs. Andrew Tye did the damage with the ball as he took 3 wickets by giving 15 runs in just three overs. At one point he was on a hat trick after dismissing Sean Abbott and Ben Dwarshuis, but Lyon managed to defend the third ball.

“Congratulations to Perth, the best team all year and probably fitting you won tonight,” said Sydney Sixer’s skipper Moises Henriques.

This was perfect revenge for the Scorchers as they were beaten by Sydney Sixers in the last season’s final match. The win against Sydney Sixers helped Perth Scorchers to win their fourth Big Bash title. Perth Scorches and Sydney Sixers are the only two clubs in the Big Bash title multiple.
