Oman to host Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier A
ICC Men’s T20 world cup qualifiers A will begin in Oman from 18th Feb. In an opening match of the qualifiers, the host Oman will take Nepal. ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifiers A will have Oman, Bahrain, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Nepal, Philippines, and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Ireland and Oman had qualified for this tournament. While Nepal and the UAE have booked their slots via ranking in the ICC Men’s T20 Team ranking. Meanwhile, the other participating teams qualified through regional tournaments that took place last year.
Qualifiers A have been divided into two groups of four. Group A will have Canada Nepal Oman and the Philippines. While group B will feature Bahrain Germany Ireland and UAE
Teams will play each other once in their group, followed by matches for position classification. Later this year, the two teams reaching the final will participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier B will start from 11th July 2022 in Harare, Zimbabwe. Qualifier B will have the host Zimbabwe, Hong Kong, Jersey, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Uganda, and the United States of America (USA).
“70 teams started the qualification process for this event, and we’ve now reached the final stages with four spots at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 set to be decided in two global qualifiers starting with this one in Oman,” ICC Head of Events, Chris Tetley said as per an official ICC release.
“With such a prize at stake, we’re anticipating top quality and competitive cricket as the teams battle to secure their place in the final and onto the plane to Australia later this year. Thanks to Oman Cricket, who are hosting their second ICC global event following last year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, for their support in planning what we trust will be another safe and successful event,” he added.
