Novak Djokovic beats Kokkinakis to advance to the 3rd round
Wimbledon 2022: World Number 1 Novak Djokovic breezed past Thanasi Kokkinakis in the 2nd round clash today.
Novak Djokovic was at his clinical best as he beat Kokkinakis in 3 straight sets to advance to the next round. He beat Kokkinakis 6-1,6-4,6-2 to win the match.
After a scrappy win in the opening round of Wimbledon against Kwon Soon-woo, Djokovic found his best form today.
Djokovic beat Kwon Soon-Woo 3-1 overall to go through to the 2nd round.
To put today’s match into perspective, Djokovic faced just a lone break point, when he was serving for the match. He successfully defended it to go on to win the match. This shows the dominance Djokovic asserted in today’s match.
With this win, he sets up a tie against the winner of the tie between Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo or Serb compatriot Miomir Kecmanovic.
The 35-year-old this time around is bidding for his fourth Wimbledon title in a row and his seventh overall. This would take him 1 behind record Wimbledon winner, Roger Federer.
The Australian Kokkinakos famously defeated Roger Federer in the second round of the Miami masters at 2018 but was unable to assert his stance in today’s tie against the World Number 1 and the defending champion Novak Djokovic.
