Nikita Mazepin axed by the Haas team amidst Russia-Ukraine conflict
Formula One driver Nikita Mazepin has had his contract terminated by Haas racing company along with Haas’s title partners Uralkai, which is a Russian fertilizer company owned by Nikita’s father, Dmitry as well. The racing team had come up with this decision through a statement released today morning which said that both the driver and their title partners are no longer associated with them. Nikita Mazepin, who is a young and talented driver was disappointed with the team’s decision as he feels that no way out was considered by the team before deciding to remove him.
“Haas F1 Team has elected to terminate, with immediate effect, the title partnership of Uralkali, and the driver contract of Nikita Mazepin. As with the rest of the Formula 1 community, the team is shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine and wishes for a swift and peaceful end to the conflict.”
Statement by the Haas team
This decision was taken by the team in a state of “shock and sadness” considering the war-like scenarios being performed by Russia. The FIA is currently allowing the Russian and Belarusian drivers to take part in the championship but under some clauses which state that the drivers will be racing under a neutral FIA flag and that they have to acknowledge that the FIA strongly condemns the actions being taken by Russia.
Despite telling the Haas team that he was ready to follow all the regulations in order to race for them, Nikita says that his intention to race in the championship under these clauses were completely ignored.
Dear fans and followers, I am very disappointed to hear that my F1 contract has been terminated. While I understand the difficulties, the ruling from the FIA plus my ongoing willingness to accept the conditions proposed in order to continue were completely ignored and no process was followed in this unilateral step. To those who have tried to understand, my eternal thanks. I have treasured my time in F1 and genuinely hope we all be together again in better times. I will have more to say in the coming days.
