NIKHAT ZAREEN CLINCHES GOLD IN BOXING,WINS HER 1ST COMMONWEALTH GAMES MEDAL INDIA ON 4TH AT CWG MEDAL TALLY
NIKHAT ZAREEN World champion boxer Nikhat Zareen has also won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. The 26-year-old became the world champion in May this year. Now he has won the yellow medal in his debut Commonwealth Games. Nikhat gave India the 17th gold. India’s medal tally has now reached 48. With this, India has overtaken New Zealand in the Commonwealth Games tally to reach the fourth position.
Before Zareen, Indian boxers Amit Panghal and Neetu Ganghas continued their dominating performances and won gold medals. Both the boxers defeated the opponent of the host country England in the final of their bouts. Panghal thus improved the colour of the silver medal of the previous round. She defeated European Championship silver medallist McDonald Kieran by a margin of 5-0 in the men’s flyweight (48-51kg) category
