New Zealand Names Squad for India Test Series: Williamson Injured, Latham Leads
New Zealand Cricket has revealed its squad for the upcoming three-match Test series against India, part of the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. The series will begin on October 16 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
However, the visitors have suffered a significant setback, as star batter Kane Williamson will delay his departure to India due to a groin strain. Williamson experienced discomfort during the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle and will undergo rehabilitation before joining the team. In his absence, uncapped batter Mark Chapman has been included as cover.
The series will also mark a new era in New Zealand cricket, with Tom Latham set to lead the side as full-time Test captain for the first time. This change follows Tim Southee’s decision to step down after New Zealand’s recent 2-0 defeat to Sri Lanka.
New Zealand Squad For India Tests:- Devon Conway, Tom Latham(c), Kane Williamson*, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell(wk), Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ajaz Patel, Matt Henry, Will Young, Micheal Bracewell (1st Test), Ish Sodhi (2nd and 3rd Test), Mark Chapman, Will O Rourke and Ben Sears
