Naomi Osaka left in tears by Heckler in between the match
Four time Grand slam winner Naomi Osaka was left in tears after the Japanese tennis star had an altercation with a heckler in between her India Wells WTA Hard court tournament match which she sadly lost by 6-0, 6-4 to Veronika Kudermetova.
The young and talented athlete was shocked when a person from the crowd shouted “Naomi, you suck” to her in the very first set of the match. Naomi was seen complaining to the chair Umpire to take some kind of action towards the heckler but it was not acted upon.
After continuing with the game, Naomi couldn’t stop herself back as her emotions got the better of her after the third game. However, she composed herself again quite bravely and resumed the game as well.
“To be honest I feel like I’ve been heckled before it didn’t really bother me,” she said.
“But, like, I’ve watched a video of Venus and Serena being heckled here.
“If you’ve never watched it you should watch it,” she added, tearing up again.
“I don’t know why, but it went into my head and it got replayed a lot.
“I’m trying not to cry,” she said as her voice was breaking.
“I just have to say thank you and congratulations, Thank you.” she added with a nod to Kudermetova.
Naomi Osaka has always stepped up to mention the importance of mental health for all the athletes and has even once decided to not take part in the tennis match due to her not being in the right state of mind to play. She said that it wasn’t the heckler that got to her. She didn’t feel good as she remembered how the Williams sisters had been treated during the 2001 Indian Wells.
The Williams sisters had boycotted the Indian Wells for almost 14 years because of the same as well.
