Mumbai City FC qualified for AFC Championship after winning the ISL 2020-21 season.
Mumbai City FC are currently training in Al Forsan before they leave for Saudi Arabia, where they will play in the AFC Champions League.
Coach Des Buckingham backs his team to do well in the AFC Champions League.
He said that it is a great platform for Indian players to show how good they can be.
” Preparations have been good. We’ve come to Abu Dhabi to prepare as well as we can for the Champions League. And we have just over two weeks here. So we’re a week in, we’ve nearly got all the players on the ground again with us and we’ve got some national team players to arrive back soon. But in terms of what we’ve been able to do, so far, it’s a nice reset and a refresh to focus on what we want to achieve in the Champions League.”
He also added that “Showing how good we can be when we have the ball because we have good players, and it’s an opportunity for them to show how good Indian players can be on this stage.”
The English coach is happy with the ongoing preparations.
“It’s an exciting one for everybody involved in the club and football in India. It’s one that we know that it’s been there all season. And now it’s arrived, I think as a coach, and as players, you want to compete and play against the best. And at the club level, the Champions League gives us the opportunity to do that. So we’re very much looking forward to it.”
Mumbai City FC face Al-Shabab in their first match of the AFC Champions League. The match will be played on 8th April.
