Mark Wood replacement found by LSG for IPL 2022 season
With Mark Wood out for the season, Lucknow Super Giants were looking for a replacement.
Mark Wood has been ruled out of the upcoming Tata IPL 2022 season due to an elbow injury. The fast bowler was bought for INR 7.5 crore at the IPL Mega Auction.
The English pacer injured himself in the first Test match in the ongoing series vs West Indies at Antigua.
According to rumors, Taskin Ahmed was pipped to replace England’s Mark Wood but, there’s speculation that BCB will not issue an NOC for him to play in IPL.
Taskin Ahmed is representing his country in South Africa. The pace bowler took 3 wickets for 36 in his 10 overs to help his country get a historic win in South Africa.
But, there is speculation that the Bangladesh Cricket Board has refused to give him an NOC to feature in the IPL.
Taskin Ahmed went unsold in the IPL Mega Auction 2022. His base price was INR 50 Lakhs.
“Since we have two important series like the ongoing home tour of South Africa and the home series against India, we feel it won’t be right for him to take part in the IPL,” BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus
The newly formed IPL franchise now has to look out for more players.
Couple of players linked with them include Australian player Andrew Tye and Zimbabwe quickie Blessing Muzarabani.
The Australian bowler has 40 wickets in 27 matches at an average of 21.80. He has picked up 1 fifer in his time at the IPL. The bowler also has a hattrick in the popular league.
He went failed to get a bid in this years IPL Mega Auction. His base price was INR 1 crore.
On the other hand, Blessing Muzarabani would be featuring in his first IPL season, if he gets picked by the Lucknow franchise.
Muzarabani had a base price of INR 50 Lakhs. If he does get picked to play in the IPL, it would be the first in 8 years that a Zimbabwean will feature in the famous league.
Blessing Muzarabani seems likely to join the IPL franchise after Embassy of India in Zimbabwe confirmed the news.
Blessing Muzarabani has 25 wickets in 20 T20I’s at an average of 26.12. His best figures are 3/21 in T20I’s.
With Lucknow Super Giants playing their first match on 28th March, they would need to rope in a replacement as quickly as possible.
