Manager Juan Fernando delighted with confidence boosting win for ATK Mohun Bagan

ATK Mohun Bagan Head Coach Juan Fernando got to witness what was an inspiring performance from his side in the Kolkata Derby as they turned out 3-1 winners. They are currently 4th on the table and a win like this can do miracles in terms of the team’s confidence going ahead in the tournament.

A hat-trick by super-sub, Kiyan Nassiri sealed the three points for the Mariners after Darren Sidoel scored for SCEB early in the second half. This victory takes ATK Mohun Bagan into the semi-final spots and keeps SC East Bengal at the bottom of the Hero ISL table.

Ferrando addressed the media after the match.

Here are some excerpts from his press conference:

What made you put Kiyan Nassiri on the pitch? Was it emotional for him?

I know the history. I’m happy. I’m happy for Kiyan because he’s working hard in the training. He’s improving a lot in training sessions and today when the game was in a very difficult moment, we decided to change the system. We use Kiyan like number nine. And of course, I’m very happy about his success in his role because he’s a young player. When a young player has amazing games, I’m very happy.

Who do you dedicate this derby win to?

Of course, 100% of the fans. In the last couple of days, a lot of our fans, our supporters write a lot of messages about this important game. I know the feelings; I know the emotions. I’m happy for them because this night they are happy with these three points.

Now that you won, do you think you can now forgive David Williams for his penalty miss?

No, of course. I think when I see these moments, I think it’s necessary to support David. Okay, he missed the penalty, but he helped a lot in the game. He was incredible, pressed the second ball, great opportunities not only today but against Hyderabad, against Odisha. Of course, everybody wants to do the best in every moment, but at this moment, for me, it’s continued working and of course support to him.

You are back into the top four now, what does it mean for the club, especially after a derby win?

Today is the happy birthday of our owner. And at this moment, I think he’s happy. And also for me, it’s important because in front of us we have nine games, Mumbai and Hyderabad are amazing. We have important games and I think it’s very important for the confidence of the players.
