India has played 999 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), winning 518 and losing 431. While celebrating the 1000th ODI, Sachin Tendulkar stated that it is crucial to recognise the achievements of former and current players, as well as BCCI officials.
“The fact that India is playing its 1000th ODI is a significant achievement. The first One-Day International (ODI) was played in 1974, and it was only possible because of former and present cricketers, as well as past and current board members “As reported by 100 MB, Tendulkar stated.
“Not to mention the most essential people, our Indian cricket team supporters from previous generations and those who are still with us today,” he continued.
“I’d want to add that this is an accomplishment for all of us, and that the entire nation should be proud of it. I hope that Indian cricket continues to grow from strength to strength. I wish them the best of luck in the upcoming series, especially the 1000th ODI “Tendulkar stated.
All three One-Day Internationals (ODIs), including the historic encounter, will be played behind closed doors at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The Gujarat Cricket Association acknowledged earlier this week that the decision to host the ODIs at the venue without supporters was made due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Earlier in the day, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly announced that no grandiose celebrations will take place for the 1000th ODI, citing the bio-bubble rules in place in Ahmedabad.
“No, nothing as such, because everything is contained within the bubble. We have to adhere to the COVID-19 norms, so lavish celebrations will be impossible, and matches will be held behind closed doors in any event “PTI quoted Ganguly as saying.
Notably, three players in the squad tested positive for Covid-19 upon arrival in Ahmedabad, including openers Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad, as well as baiter Shreyas Iyer. However, after the RT-PCR test resulted in a negative result, the rest of the team continued training.
