Maharashtra State Olympic Games 2023: Pune’s Bhivpatki, Nashik’s Toshniwal clinch badminton singles gold; Pune dominate road cycling
Bhivpatki, who had played an important role in helping Pune grab the men’s team gold a couple of days back, defeated his teammate Varun Kapur 21-11, 21-15 to clinch his second gold medal of the Games. Earlier, Toshniwal got the better of her teammate Hetal Vishwakarma 21-6, 21-13 in the women’s singles final.
Nagpur’s Ritika Thakerand-Simran Singhi (Women’s Doubles), Greater Mumbai’s Viplav and Viraj Kuvale (Men’s Doubles) and Thane’s Pratik Ranade and Mahek Nayak (Mixed Doubles) clinched the gold medals on offer in the paired events.
In the road cycling competitions held at Shirdi-Sinner, Pune’s Surya Thatu ran away with the gold medal in the 80km road race with a time of 2:15.56, just 0.2 seconds faster than Kolhapur’s Pratik Patil. Hanumant Chopade of Beed bagged the bronze with a time of 2:16.00.
Pune’s Sudarshan Devardekar dominated the individual time trial, winning the gold with a time of 56:17.07. Sangli’s Dattatray Chougule and Kolhapur’s Virendrasingh Patil claimed the silver and bronze respectively.
In the football men’s quarter-finals at Balewadi, a hat-trick by Satish Havaldar powered Pune to a thumping 6-0 win over Aurangabad. Mumbai later scored a facile 3-1 victory over Solapur.
In the women’s division Kolhapur came from behind to defeat Gondia 3-2 thanks to a brace by Aarti Katkar and a goal by Sanika Bhosale after Tripti Deep had helped the losers to a 2-0 lead.
In another match, Mumbai comfortably beat Buldhana 5-0 after Harshika Jain and Bhumika Mane had recorded a brace each with Karen Pais accounting for another goal.
In Table Tennis, seventh seed Ananya Chande and Mukta Dalvi of Thane ended the campaign of second-seeded Senhora Dsouza and Manasi Chiplunkar of Mumbai City 11-7, 6-11, 7-11, 11-3, 11-6 in the Women’s Doubles quarter-finals.
In shooting, Rajendra Bagul added another gold to his tally when he clinched the 25m Centre Fire gold to his tally on Friday.
