Langer’s exit saga will be investigated by CA’s new chairman Lachlan Henderson

Lachlan Henderson, Cricket Australia’s new chairman, acknowledged on Thursday that the way the club handled the departure of Justin Langer was a mess, and the board would investigate how it handled the situation that led to national headlines.
Langer had hoped for a long contract extension after Australia won the Twenty20 World Cup and crushed England in the Ashes, but he was only given six months. Former players criticized the board and the players for failing to support Langer despite his success, and he helped rebuild the team after the ball-tampering incident in 2018.
However, Cricket Australia’s review process was publicly approved by captain Pat Cummins, causing Langer to openly criticize the board in his resignation letter.
Langer stated that a few players and the board were opposed to his contract extension.
Henderson said that the board should have dealt with Langer sooner, considering the weeks of media speculation that followed the Ashes over his future in the post.
“It’s regrettable that some of that played out in the media, and we’ll think on whether that could have been hastened during the summer,” Henderson said on Thursday, after taking over as chairman.
It was always our intention to make that decision at the end of the summer, and we stuck to it.”
In terms of how things played out in the media, things got a little tangled.”
Henderson, a CA board for three years and the CEO of a large healthcare company, took over for temporary chairman Richard Freudenstein, who took over in October after predecessor Earl Eddings lost support from state member groups and resigned.
Henderson revealed his working approach, stating that he will attempt to be more transparent in his interactions with the other stakeholders in Australian cricket.
He said he intended to communicate openly, transparently, and hopefully consistently. “I hope there will be a truly open and transparent process in the future, within the limits of board privacy.”
