Lakshya Sen beats World no. 3 Antonsen, enters the All England quarter finals
20 year old Lakshya Sen has managed to qualify into the All England Championships quarter finals after stunning the World number 3 Anders Antonsen in a thrilling match. The boy from Almora has already got himself his maiden Super 500 title in the India Open recently and had also played the German Open final last week. He has beaten Antonsen by 21-16, 21-18 in the match on Thursday. It was a huge upset for Antonsen who is a two time World champion having won the championship in 2019 and 2021.
This was Lakshya’s first encounter with the Danish world number 3 and he has provided a remarkable performance on the court considering the boy is just at the starting of his career which offers a lot of promise for the future as well. Sen will face either Hong Kong’s eighth seed Ng Ka Long Angus or China’s Lu Guang Zu in the quarter-final.
It was a performance worthy of a win from the Indian considering he had lost in straight games to Thailand’s Ratchanok Inthanon at German Open last week. Elsewhere in the tournament, India ace Saina Nehwal fought hard in her second round match against second seed Japanese Akane Yamaguchi but eventually lost the battle in a thrilling three-game match in the end.
Former world No. 1 and 2012 London Olympics bronze medallist Saina, lost 14-21 21-17 17-21 to the world No. 2 Yamaguchi in a women’s singles match that lasted for 50 minutes in total.
