Former captain Virat Kohli is aiming for another landmark as he prepares for the three-match T20I series against the West Indies, which begins on February 16 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Kohli will be attempting to restore his position top the all-time batting tally for most runs scored in the T20I edition of the game.
Virat Kohli has scored 3227 runs in 95 matches in the shortest version of the game, placing him second on the record. He is just 72 runs behind Martin Guptill of New Zealand, who presently holds the record with 3299 runs in 1112 matches. Notably, Guptill surpassed Kohli on the exclusive list during a three-match series against India in India, with scores of 70, 31 and 51.
Virat Kohli did not participate in the three-match T20I series against New Zealand because he was rested following the T20 World Cup in October-November. Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, India crushed New Zealand to complete a decisive 3-0 series whitewash.
Captain Rohit Sharma, is not far behind, with 3197 runs, only 30 fewer than Virat Kohli. With 119 matches under his belt, Rohit has a chance to surpass Guptill as the all-time leader in T20I batting.
In the shortest format of the game, Rohit leads with 519 runs in 15 matches, while Kohli is not far behind with 501 runs in 12 matches against the West Indies.
Kohli, on the other hand, has been working hard in training in preparation for the three-match series in Kolkata.
