Karl-Anthony Towns joins the elite list after new career high 60 point performance
Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns has gone on and given a sensational performance in the NBA against the San Antonio Spurs on Monday. KAT scored a massive 60 points for his team which eventually helped them beat Spurs by a score of 149-139. He has managed to outscore his previous career which was scored four years ago when he had 56 points against the Atlanta Hawks in 2018. He has now become the 31st player to join the elite list of all the players who have managed to score 60 points in a single game in NBA history.
It isn’t any ordinary match day performance by the 7-footer as he is the first player in NBA history to reach the benchmarks of 60 points, 15 rebounds and 60% 3-point shooting in a game.
“I told Coach [Chris Finch] before the game, ‘Hey listen, we need this win. I’ll do whatever it takes. ‘If I need to play 44, 48 minutes, I’ll get it done.’ That was kind of the mindset I came in [with]. I had to dominate. I had to be my best.”
Towns said after the game
No player other than him has been able to score 60 points in a game this season. He has overtaken the likes of Los Angeles Lakers’ point guard Lebron James and Hawks’ guard Trae Young who were both sharing the season high points total of 56 till yesterday.
Towns is also the first center to score 60 points in a game since the legendary Shaquille O’Neal scored 61 points for the Lakers in the 2000 NBA season. Only five centres have managed to get a 60 point performance including Towns now.
