Kane Williamson rides his luck as GT rue their decision
IPL 2022: Kane Williamson and Co won their 2nd match of the season yesterday vs Gujarat Titans.
A crucial knock by SRH skipper Kane Williamson helped SRH triumph over GT. But, things would’ve been different had GT decided to review an LBW against Kane.
SRH had won the toss and decided to field first.
After a horrific 1st over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, SRH managed to claw back into the match as they picked up 2 wickets in the powerplay.
Contributions from Hardik Pandya, David Miller and Abhinav Manohar helped GT post 162 on the board.
In reply, Abhishek Sharma and Kane Williamson got off to a slow start. In the first over itself, Kane Williamson should’ve walked back to the dugout.
The ball from Mohammed Shami skidded on to hit Kane Williamson on the pad. There was some doubt regarding the inside edge. Umpire gave the decision in the favor of the batsman.
After a long chat, GT decided to not review the original decision of the umpire. The replay showed the ball missing the edge and 3 red dots. This means the ball was pitching outside off, impact in line and hitting the wickets.
Not reviewing turned out to be a costly mistake as Kane Williamson would go on to score 57 and help SRH over the line.
SRH won the match with 8 wickets to spare.

During the post match presentation, Rashid Khan was asked about the error.
He answered On the field, you get just 10-15 seconds. It’s not easy. Also, in LBW decisions, it’s mainly about the wicketkeeper and the bowler. The captain didn’t have much role in it. But we will try to learn from our mistakes.”
Akash Chopra also tweeted regarding the incident.
GT now face table toppers Rajasthan Royals on 14th April, while Kane Williamson and SRH play KKR on Friday.
