England’s Record-Breaking Test Win: The Multan Miracle Against Pakistan
Justin Langer has resigned as Australia’s coach.
Cricket Australia named former cricketer Andrew McDonald as interim head coach on Saturday, following the resignation of men’s team head coach Justin Langer.
Justin Langer made his professional debut in 1993. He began his career as the No. 3 player. Langer was at the top of Australia’s Test order during their most successful period in cricket, where he formed an enviable partnership with Matthew Hayden. The pair combined for 6,081 runs.
Justin Langer scored 7696 runs in 103 test matches at an average of 45.3, and he also appeared in eight One-Day Internationals for Australia. He also represented Western Australia, Middlesex, and Somerset in first-class cricket. He scored 28,382 runs at an average of 50.23 in his first-class career. Langer was part of Australia’s all-conquering team, which included legends like Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist, Glenn McGrath, and Ricky Ponting.
After retiring from cricket, he began his second innings as a coach. He began his coaching career with West Australia. He was named Australia men’s cricket team head coach after a successful coaching career with Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers.
Darren Lehmann resigned as national coach in May 2018 following the ball-tampering incident in Newlands. Langer was appointed in 2018, at a time when Australian cricket was at its lowest point in decades due to a cheating scandal. Since then, he has done an excellent job of restoring the nation’s reputation.
Justin Langer, the coach of Australia’s men’s cricket team, resigned unexpectedly on Saturday. He led Australia to ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and retained the Ashes in 2019 and 2021-2022.
“Andrew McDonald will take over as interim head coach of our men’s national team, with official duties beginning with Australia’s upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka,” Cricket Australia announced on Twitter.
McDonald is also a coach for the Birmingham Phoenix in England’s The Hundred tournament and the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League. McDonald has previously played in the IPL, first for the Delhi Daredevils in 2009 before joining the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2012–2013. He was also the Royal Challengers Bangalore bowling coach.
The CA Board approved the extension, which was presented to Langer last night. It included a chance to defend their T20 World Cup title in Australia at the end of this year. Langer informed CA this morning that he would not accept the offer and would resign immediately.
