Justin Langer and Raelee Thompson has been inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.
The former Australian opener and the current Australian head coach Justin Langer have been inducted into the Australian cricket hall of fame.
Justin Langer made his debut in 1993. He started his career at the No.3 position. During Australia’s most successful period in cricket, Langer was at the top of the order in their Test line-up where he formed an enviable partnership with Matthew Hayden. The duo scored 6,081 runs together.
Justin Langer scored 7696 runs in 103 test matches at an average of 45.3. and played eight ODI matches for Australia. He also played first-class cricket for Western Australia, Middlesex, and Somerset. In his first-class cricketing career, he scored 28,382 runs at an average of 50.23.
After taking retirement in cricket, he started his second innings in coaching. He stepped into the coaching career with West Australia. With a successful coaching career with Western Australia and Perth Scorchers, he was appointed as Australia men’s cricket team head coach.
After the ball-tampering incident in Newlands, Darren Lehmann resigned from his role as national coach in May 2018. Langer took over as head coach of Australia. He has done an excellent job restoring the nation’s reputation since then. He led Australia to ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and retained the Ashes in 2019 and 2021-2022.
“Justin’s contribution to Australian cricket spans across four separate decades,” Australian Cricket Hall of Fame Chairman Peter King said. “First as a player, as part of one of the most successful teams that world cricket has ever seen. As a coach, he entered the role at a time of great need and leads the Australian Men’s Cricket Team with great distinction, a team which the Australian public is very proud of.”
Raelee Thompson played 16 tests and 23 ODI for Australian women. She had also represented Victoria 45 times before serving as a selector for many years. With his age of 39 years and 175 days, Thompson is the oldest player – male or female – to take a five-wicket haul in a Test match.
Thompson took 57 wickets in Test matches at an average of 18.24 and 24 wickets in ODIs at an average of 18.66.
About Thompson, King said, “Raelee is similarly a deserved induction, given her outstanding contribution to the game at a time where there was little fanfare at the elite level.
Justin Langer and Thompson are the 58th and 59th inductees for the Australia Hall of Fame.
