Former England cricketer Jonathan Trott has been appointed as the head coach of Afghanistan cricket team. Trott will take over during the Afghan team’s tour of Ireland in August. It is worth noting that South Africa’s legendary all-rounder Lance Klusener left the post of head coach of the Afghanistan team after the T20 World Cup 2021, after which the team was looking for a head coach.
Jonathan Trott is very excited about becoming the coach of the Afghanistan team. Trott believed that Afghanistan was more than capable of competing with the best teams. Trott said,
“I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to develop one of the most exciting teams in international cricket. I can’t wait to work with a group of players who are clearly capable of delivering results in a style that would make the people of Afghanistan proud”
Jonathan Trott has scored 3835, 2819 and 138 runs in 52 Tests, 68 ODIs and 7 T20 Internationals respectively. During this, a total of 13 centuries and 42 half-centuries came out of his bat. He last represented England in May 2015 in a Test match against West Indies at Bridgetown. Trott has also been a useful medium pace bowler.
